Thank you for your interest in adopting from Olalla Farm Feline Spay & Neuter Project! Our program is unique given we solely support feral cat colonies in our area where the majority of the cats and older kittens we serve will be returned to their original cat colony after medical care is provided by our rescue.
We occasionally come across cats and kittens in colonies in the Kitsap, Mason and Pierce Counties that we serve who qualify for our "Feral to Fab" program. If you have shown interest in a cat or kitten we've posted as available for adoption, please know that these cats and kittens have gone through *quite* the process to make it here! We honor and respect that wholeheartedly, and at the end of the day do not select their forever families based off of a "first come, first served" mentality like most high-volume shelter and rescue adoption programs.
Any interested parties will be carefully reviewed and considered but ultimately, the kitten or cat in our care is making the ultimate decision of who *they* decide they want to go home with at the end of the day!
KITTENS:
All kittens who qualify for our "Feral to Fab" program are typically under 3 months old and done weaning with mom before we move forward with trapping. They immediately go to medical where they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms and evaluated by a licensed veterinarian for any additional medical concerns.
If other medical concerns are noted at that time, or observed during their socialization period and 2-week quarantine period with their assigned foster, the kitten will complete treatment for those medical issues before being posted for adoption.
Additional common medical issues we see with kittens from feral colonies include upper respiratory infections, eye infections, entropion (a condition where the eyelashes grow toward the eye and require surgical correction) and occasionally heart abnormalities. Any short or long term medical conditions we are aware of with every rescue will be communicated with the potential adopter prior to the adoption itself.
All kittens are assigned to an experienced foster who are pros with socializing spicy kittens. They teach and train them in all things being a spoiled indoor kitty such as litter box training, indoor "manners" do's and don'ts, eating and drinking from bowls/plates, playing with cat-friendly toys and slowly showing them that they can trust humans with lots of love, attention and patience.
ADULTS:
Any adults that go up for adoption are one of two scenarios in our adoption program:
(1) BARN CAT / WORKING CAT: These are feral adults from colonies. We only adopt out barn cats if there is an *immediate* threat to their lives in their current colony. This includes a person or persons actively harming the cats by poisoning, shooting, killing or trapping and relocating. Other scenarios include building tear-downs.
(2) FRIENDLY ADULT: These cats are typically found in our feral cat colonies where they come from a previous life of being an indoor only or indoor/outdoor kitty who was OWNED previously. In most cases, these cats come from owners who have moved and left them outside, owners who have passed away or owners who are in long-term medical care situations where the immediately family has thrown the cats outside. All friendly adults are scanned for microchips, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas before going up for adoption. If a microchip is found, the owner is contacted.
All adopted friendly cats and kittens who graduate our "Feral to Fab" program come with a FREE "Adoption Starter Kit"!
