Silent Sundays are held each Sunday. The park's main roadway is closed to motor vehicle traffic at the one-mile mark into the park from: 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the first, second, third and fifth Sunday; and, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. (park operating hours) on the fourth Sunday. On those days and times, the park's roadways are reserved for non-motorized activities such as walking, cycling, jogging, hiking, etc.

On Silent Sunday, park visitors who would like to park near the main Central Ave. entrance can do so in the Activity Complex, which can be accessed just inside the entry gate and within proximity to several popular trails and the South Mountain Environmental Education Center. Trailheads not accessed via the main Central Ave. entrance are not impacted by the Silent Sunday closures.

Silent Sundays allow a reprieve to the property and wildlife when the roadways are closed to motor vehicle traffic and encourages safe non-motorized activities. Visit the South Mountain Park/Preserve webpage for more information about Silent Sunday and the five-year infrastructure improvement project underway in the park.

To continue understanding public recreational use of the park, please provide your feedback to potentially expand non-motorized activities programs.
