The Youth Action Committee focuses on empowering homeless and at-risk youth through collaboration with service providers, enhancing understanding and resources. We strive to create an equitable community where every youth is heard, has access to support, and is enabled to build a brighter future.

Being a member of the Youth Action Committee is your opportunity to make significant impact in how Maricopa County provides support to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness.

The Youth Action Committee (YAC) is a group of youth leaders aged 16-24 living in Maricopa County, centering youth and young adults who have experienced homelessness/unstable housing during the course of their lives. The goal of the YAC is to inform the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Continuum of Care on how to implement and improve services for youth experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Committee members receive a consulting fee of $50 an hour for their work.

The Youth Action Committee is seeking applicants that identify as part of the most overrepresented populations of youth who experience homelessness. These include but are not limited to those who identify as LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, are or have been justice involved, victims of trafficking, immigrants, students experiencing homelessness, and pregnant and parenting youth and young adults. Committee members should have lived experience of homelessness or housing instability within the last 5 years.

Expectations of members of the Youth Action Committee are listed, but not limited to, the following things:
- Prioritize and attend YAC meetings, in person, virtually, or on the phone. Committee Members are asked to communicate in a timely manner when not able to attend or call into meetings.
- Participate in focus groups and feedback sessions to aid in program design.
- Act as a subject matter expert on issues effecting youth and young adults experiencing homelessness and/or housing instability.
