Dunstable Community Halls (DCH), part of Beds RCC, is a community venue in the centre of Dunstable. We have two large halls and several meeting rooms, we offer affordable space to hire for the local community and use the site as a base for our local projects including free digital inclusion sessions, a warm/cool space, social prescribing, and we are a drop-off point for Foodbank donations.
We are in the process of updating the sports hall to make it safer and more comfortable to use. Current hirers may have seen that already we have had air conditioning (hot and cold) installed, a dropped ceiling, insulation, new LED lighting, and a new fire detection system. We are also seeking funding to upgrade ingress to the sports hall so it can be accessed separately from, and without disrupting activity in, the Pioneer Hall. We are also seeking funding to repair the floor which has unfortunately suffered damp over the years.
Our aim is to create a multi-use space, which is accessible to all, for a variety of health/wellness/exercise activities to run in. We want the space to be comfortable and not intimidating or competitive, to encourage a broader range of people to get and/or stay active.
We want to hear how the community would like to use the space but envision a range of sessions including traditional exercise classes and sports through to holistic wellbeing sessions which may include meditation, chair-based exercise, mobility or physiotherapy sessions and more.
