Why No One Wants To Work Anymore: Occupational Burnout Amongst Customer Service Employees
Consent Form
1.
Description of the project:
You have been asked to participate in a research study to determine how many people in customer service jobs experience occupational burnout, and to what degree.
Procedures:
If you decide to take part in this study, here is what will happen:
You will be asked survey questions about your day-to-day experiences in your job, and questions about how your workplace conditions affect your home and social life. Please answer to the best of your ability, and in a way that best relates to your experiences. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Also, at the end of the survey, you will be given an opportunity to sign up for a one-on-one virtual interview where I will be asking you more in-depth questions relating to your work experiences.
Risks or discomfort:
The risks that you will be exposed to in this study are minimal (e.g. boredom)
Benefits of this study:
Participating in this study will have no direct benefit to you, but the findings of this research will provide a better understanding of the nature of customer service work and explanations for short staffing and high turnover in customer service jobs. We believe that your participation in this study can provide strategies for prevention or treatment measures for occupational burnout.
Compensation:
There is no compensation for participating in this survey study. But if you sign up for a virtual interview, a small token of appreciation will be provided to compensate your time.
Confidentiality:
Your part in this study is confidential within legal limits. The researchers and Lee University will protect your privacy, unless they are required by law to report information to city, state or federal authorities, or to give information to a court of law. Your data will be matched by code to your identity so your results can be tracked over time. However, all reported, presented, and published data will have all identifying information removed, including the name of the company and the location you work for. All data collected is ensured to be protected on a password-protected computer, to which only members of the research team have access.
Voluntary participation and withdrawal:
All participation is voluntary. Refusal to participate in any or all aspects of this project will be immediately honored. If you decide to be in the study and change your mind, you have the right to drop out at any time
