Habitat for Humanity partners with lower income, working families who are ready to take on homeownership but need a hand up to get there. We build new homes which are sold to the partner family at fair market value, with no down-payment. The interest-free mortgage is carried by Habitat, and monthly payments are 25-30% of the household income.
Families are selected based on various criteria relating to their ability to pay a mortgage and other homeowner expenses, their current living conditions and need for affordable housing, and willingness to partner with Habitat.

* 1. Do you understand the additional costs that come with homeownership, and do you believe you can manage these with your current income? Homeowners are responsible for their mortgage payment, property taxes, utilities, insurance, repairs and maintenance, and some landscaping and appliances.

* 2. Is your family able to complete 500 volunteer hours in a 10-12 month period? Partnership hours are a requirement for the program. These hours are started after the family is approved for a home and can be done with Habitat and other community organizations. Most of the hours are completed by the homeowners, but they can have some help from friends/extended family.
