Lesson 5.4: Segments, Lines, and Rays in APH's UEB Math Tutorial deals with the notation this question is about.

The UEB notation for "line segment AB" is different from the UEB notation for "line AB". Why?

The "bar over" is a "common modifier" and has its own symbol while the "horizontal bidirectional arrow" is not a common modifier and must use the "expression directly above" indicator.

Both the "bar over previous item" and part of the "horizontal bidirectional arrow" have grade 2 meanings and so need grade 1 indicators.

The letters AB can be misread as the shortform for "ABOUT" in the line segment but not in the line notation.
