Information Sheet and Consent

This page is an information sheet describing the project and what your participation involves. The survey is on the next page.

Choosing to move to another country is an important life decision. If you are an international migrant who has moved to Tasmania from another country in the last five years – or if you an international migrant who has moved away from Tasmania in the last five years  – we’d like to invite you to complete an anonymous survey.

The Multicultural Council of Tasmania, in collaboration with the University of Tasmania, is conducting research on experiences of international migration to - and from - Tasmania. The questions in the survey are about why you came to Tasmania, your experiences there, and what might influence your decision to remain in -  or leave - Tasmania.

The project is funded by the Tasmanian Department of State Growth who will use the findings to inform the Tasmanian government's Population Growth Strategy.

If you do the survey your identity will be completely anonymous. We do not ask for any identifying information, nor do we do keep the IP address associated with your responses. All of your responses will be kept in a password protected database and will only be accessed by members of the research team.

The benefits of filling out this survey are that you may contribute to improving the experiences of people moving to Tasmania.  Risks are no more than those of an everyday conversation. If completing these questions makes you feel uncomfortable or anxious, you are free to stop completing the survey at any time with no penalty.

If you have any questions or concerns about the study, or your rights as a participant, please contact the project leader, Associate Professor Daphne Habibis (d.habibis@utas.edu.au; 6226 7487) or the project manager, Dr Ani Wierenga (wierenga@unimelb.edu.au).  If you prefer, you could speak to the staff at the Multicultural Council of Tasmania on (03) 6224 8838.
