Summer Programs for K-12 Students

The Orcas Island Public Library, Orcas Island School Library, and Orcas Island Park and Recreation District are collaborating to develop interesting and engaging summer programming for children in grades K-12.

We need your input as soon as possible — preferably no later than Friday, May 24.

Our goal is to provide opportunities for all school-age youth to use our school library as a place for fun and interesting activities this summer. So, please help us choose great activities for Orcas children and visitors!

If you have questions or comments please contact Orcas Park and Rec at 376-7275 or Thank you for your time. We look forward to sharing the results with you.

First, check if you would be interested in the following activities; also list ideas you may have:

* 1. ___Game club (including backgammon, chess, checkers, go, and Scrabble)

* 2. ___Book clubs for elementary school children

* 3. ___Book club for middle schoolers

* 4. ___Book club for high schoolers

* 5. ___Animation lab for students to animate stories

* 6. ___“Makers” or inventors club

* 7. ___Reading and activity club connected to the school garden

* 8. ___Art studio - sketching or drawing

* 9. ___College workshop -- writing the personal essay

* 10. ___Other (please describe)

* 11. Next, we are exploring weekdays and times to provide some programs during the period July 1 - August 16. Please rank the time of day and how often you would prefer that activities occur.

* 12. And finally, if you, as an adult, would be interested in helping to run some of these programs (as a coach, mentor, or volunteer), please list your name, phone number, email address, and topic of interest.
