OpenClipArt: the benefits of open sharing and collaboration
Dear Open Clip Art Library members,
I am a graduate student from the Communications and New Media Programme of the National University of Singapore. I am working with Dr. Giorgos Cheliotis (http://profile.nus.edu.sg/fass/cnmgc/) on a project about open sharing and free culture. Dr. Cheliotis is a leading member of Creative Commons Singapore and has worked on many international projects on open licensing and open collaboration. Our project focuses on examining how people collaborate in online communities, why they are willing to make contributions, and what benefits they derive from their participation and from interacting with peers in the community. I chose Open Clip Art Library as a case study because it emphasizes the collaborative creation of a clipart library that can be freely used.
This survey covers questions about why you choose to upload your clip art to the Open Clip Art Library, the types of relationships that you build with other members, and the expected benefits for you and for the whole community. Please assist us to finish this survey, and just give the true answers based on your own experience. It will take about 15-20 minutes. All the information you provide will be kept confidential and will only be used for academic research. Our aim, among other things, is to find what types of community organization and motivations lead to stronger community ties and more opportunities for collective creativity to flourish. Your cooperation is of great significance to us and we will make the anonymized, aggregate results of our research public and share them with you after the analysis. Thank you so much!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
