NOTE: Before joining the General Family Peer Support Group, and as part of the registration process, family members are asked to actively acknowledge that they have read the following statement. (It is notable that the following Confidentiality Statement has been vetted through Legal Services at The Royal.)

Confidentiality Statement
"The core values of peer support are the cornerstone of interactions between peers. These values include integrity, authenticity and trust, which are ensured when confidentiality, reliability and ethical behaviour are honoured in every peer support interaction. A peer supporter is bound to maintaining confidentiality within the limitation of program policies and the law.

Confidentiality is especially important for groups providing family peer support where the loved one’s journey interfaces with the criminal justice system. The need for trust and an environment that allows a safe space for sharing experiences is paramount.

Recognizing that family-based peer support members are in different places in their loved one’s journey, the understanding and experiential knowledge shared by the group members requires that confidentiality be respected in all interactions. While the peer support facilitators are bound to confidentiality, it is expected that all members of the group observe this level of respect as well."
