The Local Government and Communities Role in Opportunity Zones

The September 10th IPDC Board Meeting is Economic Development Day in the Isothermal Region and we are going to talk about your Community’s Role in Opportunity Zones.

Our Annual Economic Development Day will be September 10, 2019.  This year’s theme is “Preparing for Opportunities, an economic and community development primer for success.”  We are planning a very full day starting with a Community and Economic Development Regional Staff Workshop on "Project Developments in the 9 Opportunity Zones across the Isothermal Region," in the morning, followed by the IPDC Board Meeting at 11:30 with Lunch, our featured speaker Jeanne Milliken Bond of the Richmond Federal Reserve on "The Local Government and Communities Role in Opportunity Zones" and our Regular Board meeting. 

The Lunch Event/Board Meeting will take place in the Foundation Center for Performing Arts, on the Isothermal Community College Campus.  [GPS address: 172 Rapid Ct, Forest City, NC 28043].  Thanks to our partners at ICC for the use of the facilities for this exciting day!

Schedule for the Day

MORNING EVENT:
8:30am – 11 am:  Project Development in the Opportunity Zones across the Isothermal Region. A workshop for Commission Member staffs, Community Development Staff, Economic Development Staff, Managers, Planners, and others.  IPDC Economic and Community Development Staff will be assisted by staff from the NC Department of Commerce Rural Division. Contact Steve Lockett if you are interested in attending the morning workshop. 

LUNCH EVENT/BOARD MEETING:
11:30pm- 1:00pm: The Local Government and Communities Role in Opportunity Zones is theme for our IPDC Board of Directors Meeting.  This Business Meeting will feature Jeanne Milliken Bonds of the Richmond Federal Reserve and George Ashton, Managing Director and Strategic Investments with LISC.  LISC has, for 40 years, been leading investment and working hands-on in many of the places now designated as Opportunity Zones. In fact, 924 Opportunity Zones are in LISC's footprint, where we've done some 861 investments, as our Featured Speaker.  You are invited to this event - please contact Judy Lynch if you have any questions.

AFTERNOON EVENT:
3pm- 6pm: Investing in the Isothermal Region. IPDC Executive Director Scott Dadson, Walter Dalton, President of ICC and Jeanne Milliken Bonds of the Federal Reserve will be convening members of the investment community, bankers and other firms who have a interest in developing Opportunity Zone Investment Funds, and Investment Fund Projects.
