WHAT IS OPEN STREETS

Open Streets Windsor returns this September to connect our diverse neighbourhoods and people across our community on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  As thousands have witnessed over the past three years, this free community event will see an updated eight kilometre route along Sandwich Street, Riverside Drive West (new this year!), University Avenue, Wyandotte Street East and Drouillard Road temporarily opened to people but closed to cars.

In addition to providing a space for people to walk, cycle, roller blade, etc. along the route, hubs are designated for individuals, businesses and organizations to animate the spaces with community-led, interactive activities - things like exercise, street games, obstacle courses, neighbourhood tours, dance classes, samples, musical performances, art installations and more. The possibilities are endless and that’s where you come in!

Activities must be free and encourage the greatest possible participation from people of all ages and abilities.

Open Streets is a great way to introduce your organization or brand to a large and diverse audience in a fun setting.

Open Street activities must:
  • Be participatory.
  • Be able to engage large audiences.
  • Focus on health, physical activity, arts, or culture.
  • Be feasible.
  • Be accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
  • Pop-up in nature - quickly and easily set up and take down by you
  • Self contained - minimal or no need for a power supply etc.
  • Not involve alcohol, horses, or inflatables (e.g. bouncing castle).
If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please fill out this Activity Proposal Form to let us know!
