Oregon Survey Modernization Recruitment Survey

Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is partnering with the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board to further improve the health of American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) people through review of selected survey data collected by the state. Through June 2021, NPAIHB will be working with tribal members/staff and others involved in AI/AN public health to help better identify short term and long term health needs of communities across the state.

The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and Oregon Health Teens (OHT) surveys give insight into the health needs of Oregon communities, including tribal nations and urban Indian communities.

The goal of the Oregon Survey Modernization initiative is to strengthen the state survey system and gain a better understanding of the data by working closely with community partners. This will help OHA learn more about how the BRFSS and OHT data can be best used for decision making by the state, tribes, and others, as well as identify and address limitations or gaps.

NPAIHB's Public Health Improvement & Training (PHIT) team is looking for 5 community partners to help improve and interpret data on AI/AN people and communities from these state surveys. The suggested qualifications and roles/responsibilities are below:

Qualifications:
  • Tribal staff members, AI/AN community members, AI/AN organization staff members, or others working with AI/AN data at a community level in Oregon
  • Familiarity with BRFSS, OHT, or other similar health surveys (such as tribal BRFSS, community health assessments, etc.)
  • Some experience in reviewing and using data for understanding and making program decisions related to community health
Roles/Responsibilities:
  • Participation in 5 virtual meetings of 2-3 hours each, between February and April 2021, facilitated by NPAIHB staff (~10-15 hours total over 3 months))
  • Review of meeting materials and selected data reports before each meeting, and review and approval of final report to OHA in May-June 2021 (~5-10 hours total over 5 months)
  • Financial compensation provided by NPAIHB
