Welcome to the Youth Worker Survey!

The Youth Worker Survey is a province-wide survey to better understand what youth work looks like in Ontario including who is doing the work, the conditions surrounding this work, and the wellbeing of youth workers.

This survey is a part of the Ontario Youth Sector Compass research project by the Youth Research and Evaluation Exchange (YouthREX) that is focused on understanding the experiences of young people and youth workers in Ontario.

Before you begin, we want to be sure that you are aware of the details of this research study and are comfortable with taking part. Please review the information provided below. Once you have read through the details, you can begin the survey.
What do I have to do?
You will be asked to complete a 15-20-minute survey. In the survey, you will be asked questions about your work, your organization, and your experiences as a youth worker. You should feel free to skip any question you do not feel comfortable answering.

What do I get?
After completing the survey, you can enter a draw to win one of nine prizes. There will be draws for 2 awards of $500, 2 awards of $250, and 5 awards of $100. You will be able to choose between a cash prize via e-transfer or an Amazon gift card.

Who is doing this research?
This research project is led by Dr. Uzo Anucha, Provincial Academic Director of YouthREX, Associate Professor and York Research Chair in Youth and Contexts of Inequity at the School of Social Work, York University.

Are there any risks involved?
There are minimal risks to participating in this survey. You may feel uncomfortable answering certain questions. These feelings are normal and should be temporary. We have also compiled a list of free emotional support services if you would like help to process any difficult emotions that may come up while completing the survey.

Will people know I took the survey?
Your answers will be confidential and anonymous – no one will know that you filled it out, or how you answered the questions. Your name will not appear on the collected data, nor will your name or any identifying information appear in any writing that will arise from the research. All collected data will be stored on a password- protected folder on a secure server and accessible by only the research team. The data will be used for academic and research purposes only.

What are you going to do with my answers?
Your answers will be combined with those of other youth workers in Ontario who complete the survey to build a picture of what youth work in Ontario is like, what challenges youth workers experience and what supports they require to do their job as healthily and effectively as possible. The findings will be available to policy makers and youth programs across Ontario so they can understand how to better support youth workers.
