Official Community Plan = The Big Picture.
Think of it as our roadmap for the future - how we grow, where we build, and what our community looks like.

Zoning Bylaw = The Rules of the Game
This is where the plan comes to life. It sets the rules for what can be built where, from homes to businesses.

Why the update?
We're making changes based on:
  • How well our current plans are working
  • What you told us earlier this year in surveys and open houses
  • New provincial laws, market shifts, and changing demographics
  • Best planning practices
Your voice matters!
This survey should take less than 10 minutes - make sure your voice is heard and share your thoughts on the proposed updates to our OCP and Zoning Bylaw.

Question Title

* 1. Tell us who you are (select all that fit).

Question Title

* 2. What is your age?

Question Title

* 3. Community Character
The Official Community Plan places an emphasis on accommodating new development while still preserving the character of existing communities. This applies to all communities with the RM, including agricultural, country residential, and urban areas.

Every community has its own "feel". As the RM of Edenwold grows, we want to keep what makes each place special. Think about what makes your area special. Which of these aspects are most important? Pick all that apply or add your own.

Question Title

* 4. Cannabis Retail Businesses
In 2018, the RM set rules for where cannabis stores can open. Since then, a lot has changed in how these businesses are viewed and regulated.

To give more flexibility when looking at new cannabis store locations, the RM is proposing smaller minimum separation requirements between cannabis retail stores and the uses listed in the table below —except schools (elementary and high schools), where the current distances will stay the same.

The proposed changes won't mean that cannabis shops are automatically allowed everywhere. Each proposed location still needs Council’s approval, and there will be a public hearing before any decision is made.

Use Current Minimum Separation Distance Proposed Minimum Separation Distance
High schools and elementary schools 200 metres (656 feet) 200 metres (656 feet)
Parks/playgrounds, public recreational facilities, day care facility, community centre/youth centre and places of worship 200 metres (656 feet) 60 metres (197 feet)
Other cannabis retail stores, private schools, private recreational facilities, and tutoring services 100 metres (328 feet) 60 metres (197 feet)

Do you support the reduction of minimum separation distances between cannabis retail stores and any of the following uses? The diagram below will give you an idea of what each distance looks like in real life.

  Leave as 200 metres Reduce to 100 metres Reduce to 60 metres
Private schools and tutoring services
Recreational facilities
Parks/playgrounds
Day care facilities
Community centres/youth centres
Places of worship
Other cannabis retail stores
Tutoring services

Question Title

* 5. Acreage Size
Right now, the biggest size allowed for a single‑parcel acreage subdivision in the CR1 - Country Residential 1 zone is 22 acres. The RM wants to give landowners more flexibility by allowing slightly bigger acreages if needed to fit existing yard features (like trees, dugouts, or farm buildings) when subdividing a yard from the rest of the quarter section. Do you agree with this change?

Question Title

* 6. Housing Options
Consider your current needs, future plans, and what you’d like to see in your community. Please rank the housing types below from most to least preferred:

Question Title

* 7. Apartment Buildings

The RM has heard a lot of feedback against apartment buildings in Emerald Park. Below is a list of concerns we received that relate directly to the Zoning Bylaw. (Note: Other issues like school space or housing prices were mentioned by residents, but they are not part of this survey because they are not regulated by municipal government and are therefore outside the scope of the OCP and Zoning Bylaw review.)

Please pick the two concerns that influenced your opinion the most.
