Presented by:   Paul Byers, M.D., MSDH State Epidemiologist 
Dr. Byers received his Bachelor of Science degree from Millsaps College in Biology. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Mississippi, with training in internal medicine in 1992.  Dr. Byers has been employed with the Mississippi State Department of Health since 1993 in the position of Medical Director for the Copiah County and Hinds County Health Departments.  He has previously served as the Deputy State Epidemiologist and Acting State Epidemiologist. He has given numerous presentations in the field of epidemiology and his primary area of focus is infectious diseases.

Target Audience:
This activity is intended for internal medicine, family medicine and primary care physicians and advance practice clinicians.

Learner outcome:
Self-report a knowledge gain of the nature of the virus, the societal aspects of coping with the effects both during and after illness along with the prevention and mitigation of infection in schools.

The goal of this activity is to provide a better understanding of the nature of the COVID19 virus, the social aspects of coping with the effects both during and after illness along with prevention and mitigation of infection in schools.
Objective(s): Review the current stats and overall impact of COVID-19 in the state of MS.

This activity consists of an educational component (slides, audio lecture) in an electronic format, followed by an online post-test and participant self-reflection / declaration of learning.  Estimated time to complete this activity, including review of materials is one hour.

3.    View support materials if applicable.  Estimated time = 00 mins
