About the Survey

Dear Parent:

My name is Dr. Michael Saini. I am an Associate Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. I would like to invite you to take part in an evaluation of Overcoming Barriers (OCB). Below is a description of the evaluation.

What is the purpose of the evaluation?

The purpose of the evaluation is to know more about the experiences of children and parents who attend OCB.

What would you be required to do?

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete a survey before participating in OCB, immediately following the completion of the program and then during a follow up survey and interview. The survey will take 30 to 40 minutes of your time to complete. You will be asked to read a statement or question and then indicate your answer. There are no right or wrong answers.

Are you eligible to participate?

You can participate if you meet the following: 1) you have experienced a separation/divorce; 2) you have at least one child under the age of 20 years with the person with whom you separated/divorced; and 3) you are attending the OCB.

Is the information that you provide confidential?

Your information will be kept confidential. The evaluation team will be the only people to have access to your information. The results of the evaluation may be presented in published literature; but no information that could identify individuals will be reported. The results of the evaluation will be made available to you by contacting me 3 months after the surveys.

What are the risks and benefits?

There will be no immediate benefits to you for participating in this evaluation. Your participation will have a long-term benefit of providing a better understanding of the quality of OCB. The results are also expected to help professionals working with parents to provide appropriate support.

There are no known risks of participating in the evaluation.  Since the information is anonymous, we will not be able to connect your responses to you.

What do you do if you no longer wish to participate?

Participating in this evaluation is completely voluntary and you are under no obligation to be involved. If you choose not to participate further, you can simply choose to stop completing the survey at any time. Also, you do not have to answer questions that you do not wish to answer. You are not obligated to have any further involvement if you do not wish to. Your decision to participate or not participate will in no way alter your access to services, as your decision to participate is completely confidential.
