Welcome to New Opportunities Mentoring Program

Thank you for your interest in the community-based mentoring program that is offered through New Opportunities, Inc. We have programs in Audubon, Carroll, Greene, Guthrie, and Sac Counties.

What is Mentoring?
"Mentoring is a trusting relationship that brings a young person (a mentee) together with a caring adult (a mentor) who offers guidance, support and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the 'mentee.' Within a mentoring relationship, mentors and ‘mentees’ typically spend time getting to know each other, having fun together, building trust, and working toward self-identified goals” (DuBois and Karcher, 2005).
Overview of our community-based program:
Our mentors are caring and trusted adults within your community that are 18+ years old and have completed our application, screening, interview, and training process. Your child is matched with a mentor based on similar interest, selected preferences, and on the experience of our mentors. Your child and their mentor are required to meet at least 4 hours per month (via in-person or virtually), make a commitment to meet for 1 year, and they must attend at least 1 group mentor event per year.
We are required to have all families complete the following application information and conduct an in-home interview.
Upon receiving the information from this application, one of our program coordinators will contact you to set up a time to conduct an in-home match interview. This will allow us to speak with you and your child, get to know you better, as well as answer any questions you may have about the program. During this interview, we will also discuss our program requirements, procedures, and additional information we will need from you on your child.
For assistance, questions, and any other concerns please contact one of our mentoring program coordinators.
