Application to Name or Create an MPSA Award

MPSA awards should be named after highly distinguished scholars who have made significant contributions. It is also in the interest of the MPSA, and the profession, to consider the diversity of profiles represented in the MPSA’s set of awards. Those considered for a naming honor have sound reputations with respect to their character and research. With the exception of the Flagship Awards, the funding level for the “Best Paper” awards is $250 and includes a plaque. The funding for the Conference Travel Grant Awards is $500.

Several current awards are not yet named, and new awards may also be created. Nominations may be made to name Field, Subfield, and Career Stage Awards, and new Conference Travel Grant Awards.

The five-person ad hoc Committee on Awards will evaluate applications to create new awards and name awards after individuals. This committee will forward their recommendation to the Executive Council of the MPSA which will then vote on their recommendation at the next MPSA Council Meeting (either during the MPSA Conference, or during the APSA Conference).

$250 Subfield Award - For the best paper presented at the MPSA conference in a more specialized subfield.

$250 Career Stage Award (Undergraduate) - For the best paper presented at the MPSA conference by an undergraduate student.

$250 Career Stage Award (Graduate) - For the best paper presented at the MPSA conference by a graduate student.

$250 Career State Award (Emerging Scholar) - For the best paper, regardless of field or topic, by a scholar or group of scholars who have received their terminal degree(s) within six years of the year in which the paper was presented.

$500 Conference Travel Grant Award - Provides funding for individuals to attend the conference.
