1. Welcome to the NZ Industry Survey, for the RCEP FTA Negotiation

7% of survey complete.

We would like to hear from your company about challenges you have faced exporting to and selling in the countries involved in the RCEP FTA negotiation. The countries involved in the RCEP FTA accounted for 60% of New Zealand’s exported goods in 2013.

The countries participating in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) include the ten South East Asia members of ASEAN (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam) and the six countries with which ASEAN has FTAs – Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand. The Leaders of RCEP countries have stated that the FTA will establish a “free trade area” in the region that will eliminate barriers on “substantially all trade in goods”. If achieved, this would provide New Zealand exporters greater access to a region of three billion people.

We need to hear from New Zealand businesses about the real problems that might be addressed in this FTA. New Zealand is a small voice at a table that includes some of the world’s most significant countries, so we will need to be focused on priority interests. We have prepared an open-ended survey for the manufacturing, processing and forestry exporting sectors that can be completed in fifteen to twenty minutes, to help us identify what issues businesses face. Your input would be greatly appreciated so that New Zealand negotiators can better advance and protect New Zealand's economic and commercial interests.

This online survey is intended for New Zealand companies that export manufactured, processed and forestry goods to RCEP markets. If you are unsure whether this survey is for you, have any questions, or would like to provide feedback in an alternative format (e.g. verbally or by email), please contact rcep@mfat.govt.nz / 04 439 8183.
