Field Manuals for Marine Sampling in Australian Waters
The NESP Marine Hub has recently launched the first version of a suite of field manuals to describe a nationally consistent and defensible approach to marine data acquisition (www.nespmarine.edu/field-manuals). With over 70 contributors from 30 agencies, the field manuals include information on marine survey design, pre-survey planning, gear deployment and retrieval, and data management.
It is hoped that the field manuals are used in multiple ways, including:
i) As a straightforward and tested approach to help ensure research design and methods are consistent with national best practice; ii) As part of increasing access to relevant data to support all researchers improving their project outputs; iii) As a preferred approach for research to support environmental impact assessments; and iv) As a condition of research support in an area for which an organization has authority.
The purpose of this questionnaire is:
* To understand who is already using (or intends to use) the field manuals and associated standard operating procedures (SOPs) and in what capacity
* To identify opportunities to improve and update the exisiting field manuals in future versions
* To gauge the demand for additional SOPs
