The CIHR-Institute of Health Services and Policy Research, together with its partners and the Canadian Health Services and Policy Research Alliance (CHSPRA), is developing a new Health System Impact Doctoral Award for doctoral trainees in HSPR and related fields. This doctoral award is part of a broader Training Modernization Strategy and is related to the HSPR Start-Up Grants and Health System Impact Fellowship awards that were launched earlier this year.  We are inviting community input regarding key design parameters for the upcoming doctoral award.  The comments you share in this survey will help us design a Health System Impact Doctoral Award that brings maximum value and impact. Background: The Canadian Health Services and Policy Research Alliance (CHSPRA) released its Training Modernization Strategy in December 2015 (link provided below). The overall goal is to modernize health services and policy (HSP) doctoral and post-doctoral training to prepare graduates for broader and stronger career readiness and greater health system impact. A key recommendation of the Strategy is the creation of experiential learning opportunities for doctoral trainees and post-doctoral fellows. Experiential learning opportunities within health system and related organizations are expected to provide trainees the chance to contribute their research and analytic talents to solving complex challenges at the coalface, while at the same time benefitting from professional experience and enriched competency development in areas like project management, leadership and communication. 

Survey: The survey is designed to garner community input on key features of the forthcoming Health System Impact Doctoral Award. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Responses will remain anonymous and findings will be synthesized, aggregated and reported back to CIHR-IHSPR and the CHSPRA Training Modernization Working Group.
