Self-Care and Self-Neglect: Understanding Local Needs
Self-care means looking after your wellbeing in ways that feel manageable for you. This might include rest, regular meals and staying connected with others.
Sometimes life can get on top of us. Stress, low mood, health problems, or loss and trauma can make it harder to care for ourselves or our homes.
When someone is struggling to maintain their usual day-to-day care, this is sometimes called self-neglect. It can mean you struggle with day-to-day tasks like washing, eating regularly, managing medication, keeping the home safe, or asking for help.
This is common during difficult times and is not a failure or a choice.
