This years Carers Parliament will take place on the 30th October at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel, 31-35 Grassmarket Edinburgh, EH1 2HS.

This years Carers Parliament funded by the Scottish Government and supported by Scottish & Southern Electricity Network.

The Minister for Social Care and Mental Wellbeing Tom Arthur MSP and the Health and Social Care Spokesperson for COSLA, Councillor Paul Kelly have both been invited and we expect their attendance.

If you are attending in person, we also offer expenses to carers for the costs of travel and where required, replacement care, accommodation (for those travelling further) and subsistence.

Travel, accommodation and replacement care:
Funding is available to support carers to attend. This will include reasonable travel costs e.g. standard class public transport wherever possible (rail, bus, ferry). If this is not practical, we provide a set mileage rate should you need to drive. There is limited parking at the venue and other public parking is available nearby. For carers on the Islands, we can cover standard air fares.

If you are attending in person, please complete the next section to provide further details.
  • We will provide travel expenses for all carers/former carers who require this to attend. This is normally provided following the event but if the costs mean you need this in advance, please let us know in the section below and we will provide prompt reimbursement or may be able to arrange on your behalf.
  • We can provide replacement care to enable you to attend. If you require this, please let us know and we can, for example, arrange to pay your service provider directly.
  • Accommodation will be available for those carers who cannot travel to the event and back on the same day. This would primarily be carers from remote and rural areas. Carers Scotland will seek to organise hotel accommodation on your behalf.

Catering:
12.Please provide details of any specific dietary requirements or allergies you have.  To enable the venue to make arrangements and label food for individuals, we need to know this information in advance.
13.If you have a severe food allergy, particularly if this can result in anaphylaxis, please provide details, so that we can enable the venue to make appropriate arrangements to ensure that the food provided to you has no ingredients to which you are allergic.
Accessibility and other support:
14.We will seek to make the Carers Parliament accessible to all carers, including endeavouring to meet the needs of carers with disabilities, sensory impairments or health conditions and to carers who have specific language or cultural requirements.

The venue itself is accessible with lift and ramp access.

* evaluating the event so that we can identify any gaps in representation e.g. caring role, age group, ethnicity in order to try to rectify this in the future. This will not include any identifying information.
* reporting on groups that attended the Carers Parliament. This will not include any identifying information.
