On January 1, 2025, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shifted all oral-only therapies, like phosphate lowering therapies (PLTs) into Part B of the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Medicare Prospective Payment System (also known as the “Bundle”). This CMS decision was against the recommendation of kidney patient advocacy organizations, healthcare professionals, and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) as it would potentially reduce or delay patient choice and access to these oral-only treatments, like PLTs.
The AAKP is conducting an independent flash survey through its Center for Patient Research and Education to determine the real world impact of this CMS decision on kidney patients and the healthcare professionals they choose to care for them.
