Health Conditions of Farmers

Dr.Carla Wilhite, OTR/L from the University of New Mexico- Occupational Therapy Graduate Program, is conducting a research study. The purpose of the study is learn more about the kinds of health issues, activity limitations, impairments, and disabilities being experienced by farmers and ranchers. You are being asked to participate in this study because you have been identified as a food grower in New Mexico.

Your participation will involve answering survey questions that ask about your health issues, activity limitations, impairments, or disabilities. The survey should take about 20-30 minutes to complete. Your involvement in the study is voluntary, and you may choose not to participate. There are no names or identifying information associated with this survey. The survey includes questions such as “What health conditions do you have?” You can refuse to answer any of the questions at any time. There are no known risks in this study, but some individuals may experience discomfort when answering questions. All data will be kept for three years in a locked file in Dr. Wilhite’s office and then destroyed.

The findings from this project will provide information on farmer and rancher health issues that may lead to future services or interventions to improve farmer health. If published, results will be presented in summary form only.

If you have any questions about this research project, please feel free to call Dr. Wilhite at (505)272-3324. If you have questions regarding your legal rights as a research subject, you may call the UNMHSC Office of Human Research Protections at (505) 272-1129.

By voluntarily completing the survey, you will be consenting to participate in the above described research study. You may exit the survey at any time, and only questions answered to that point will be used in the data.

Thank you for your consideration.
