How to Spread Awareness About Methods of Firearm Injury Prevention

How to Best Inform the Medical Community About Firearm Safety Opportunities

Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center has created an interactive toolkit that details three interventions to protect yourself and your loved ones from firearm injury or suicide. We want to share this information with medical professionals to help inform their patients about these specific safety strategies:
  • Firearm Safe Storage provides an effective way to keep you and your family safe. The toolkit includes an interactive map to help people in crisis identify temporary firearm storage options outside the home.
  • Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) allow families or law enforcement to petition a judge to restrict individual possession and purchase of firearms using a civil order.
  • Voluntary Waiver of Firearm Rights (Do-Not-Sell) lets people voluntarily and confidentially restrict immediate access to firearm purchase.
1.Our question is, how can we best share this information with physicians and their staff?
2.What do you perceive as the biggest reason medical persons do not discuss firearm injury prevention?
3.Would you be willing to assist in sharing Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center information with your colleagues and staff?
4.If 'yes' to the above, what is the best way to contact you to provide you with the most current firearm injury prevention information?
