About the Survey

The European Association for International Education wishes to understand how  mobility of students—specifically in the context of exchange programmes and agreements—is playing out at the start of the 2020/2021 academic year  in the European Higher Education Area.

The survey should take approximately  15  minutes to complete and is best completed on a computer or laptop (rather than a phone or tablet). It should be completed by individuals working in higher education institutions across the European Higher Education Area who have access to the most current information about their institution’s student exchange programmes and participation numbers. Please note that we are ideally seeking one comprehensive survey response per institution.

We’d like to know the extent to which numbers of inbound and outbound exchange students differ this year in comparison to a “typical” year. We’re also interested in exploring whether there are similarities or differences in these dynamics depending on whether exchanges involve European or non-European partners. Finally, we wish to gain insight into which alternatives to mobility are most commonly being adopted, when physical exchange opportunities are curtailed.

This study does not focus on international degree-seeking students or “study abroad” students that are not connected to exchange programmes.

All data collected via the survey will be kept confidential and any specific reference to responses in the resulting report will be anonymised or reported in the aggregate. Further information about the data collection and protection protocols in relation to this survey may be found here.

Initial headline findings from this survey were shared at the EAIE Community Exchange on 16 October 2020. However, the survey will remain open until Friday, 06 November 2020 at 17:00 CEST. If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please contact info@eaie.org.
