The Alexandria Police Department’s (APD) Dog Walker Watch engages the city’s active community of dog owners in supporting neighborhood safety. Participants sign up with APD and serve as extra eyes and ears while walking their dogs, reporting suspicious activity through 911, 703.746.4444, or 311, as appropriate.
The program also strengthens APD’s connection with residents. Participants regularly engage and walk with officers, exchange safety information, and provide community feedback. Dog Walker Watch uses the natural visibility and consistency of daily dog walks to increase neighborhood awareness while building trust and strengthening communication.
