The 2020 Management Plan for the North Star Nature Preserve (NSNP) is a continuation of previous management plans, which seek to enhance natural resources while addressing recreation pressures on infrastructure. Many of the attributes that make North Star such an important place to protect are also what make it a popular destination for locals and visitors. While allowing for passive recreation was a part of the original conservation values, the increase in the Preserve’s popularity over time requires increased management focus to ensure that the ecological values are not negatively impacted. Natural resource studies and continued monitoring show that existing, adaptive management strategies and partnerships are supporting a dynamic and healthy ecological community.
North Star is a nature preserve first and foremost. Being quiet and respectful of the wildlife and other visitors is important and fundamental to the success of the Preserve.
