Update for 3/26/2020 - We're humbled and touched by the outpouring of support we've received from our community, and we're happy to share that all of our pets have now been placed in foster homes! If you're interested in fostering dogs in the future and meet all of the criteria outlined below, we still welcome you to apply at this time so you can be ready once more animals are in need of foster. We are not currently accepting new foster applications for cats, small mammals, or other homes who do not meet the below criteria - we encourage you to contact other organizations if you are seeking to foster these types of animals.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Seattle Humane!

Seattle Humane is currently closed to the public as we continue to monitor the situation with COVID-19 in our region. In order to do our part to reduce the spread of this virus and minimize face-to-face interactions between people, we have also suspended recruitment for all of our volunteer programs except for specific types of Foster Parents (see criteria outlined below). Please be assured that the pets in our care are continuing to receive the same amount of love and care that they can always expect from our staff and current volunteers!

If you are interested in volunteering on campus or for special events…

We would love to have you join us in the future! We anticipate volunteer recruitment to resume once our shelter is again open to the public. Please keep an eye on our website and social media pages for more up-to-date information about Seattle Humane’s public closure.

If you are interested in becoming a Foster Parent….

All of the pets currently in our care have already been placed in foster homes, and we are fortunate to have a network of additional foster families ready to take animals if the need arises. At this time we are only seeking new foster homes that meet all of the following criteria:

-Interested in fostering dogs
-Live in a house (no apartments or condos)
-Have no resident pets
-Have no children living in the home

If you meet all of these criteria and would like to foster a dog, please complete the following application to tell us more about yourself. Our staff will review your application and email you with additional information. Please allow up to 7 business days for us to contact you.

If you do not meet these criteria but you are still interested in fostering, we encourage you to contact other local animal rescues and shelters in the area who may have a higher need for additional foster homes at this time.
As these organizations are separate from Seattle Humane we are unable to speak to their processes or availability, and ask that you contact them directly with any questions about their programs.
