Participant Informed Consent

Dear California Association of School Psychology (CASP) Member,

My name is Laura Rivas, and I am a graduate student working under the direction of Dr. Jocelyn Hively in the School Psychology Program at Fresno Pacific University. I am interested in identifying the extent to which school psychologists are using their role as interventionists in recommending/implementing evidence-based social skills interventions for improving the social communication of students with autism spectrum disorders. I have developed a survey to collect data on school psychologists’ knowledge, use, and perceived effectiveness of interventions for improving social communication and facilitating the inclusion of students with autism spectrum disorders in inclusive school settings.

I am inviting your participation in this study, which will involve the completion of the included survey that is estimated to take 15-30 minutes of your time. Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You may decline to answer questions or discontinue the survey at any time with no penalty. If you choose to participate in this study by completing and submitting the survey with your name, you are considered eligible for a drawing to earn one of three $50 Amazon gift cards. Winners will be selected at random and will be notified by April 9, 2021.

There is minimal risk involved in this study. The information that you provide is completely confidential and will be combined with others as group data. Although you may not benefit directly from the research findings, information gained from this study may inform the research literature and training programs how effective interventions are perceived for promoting students with ASD in mainstream settings.

If you choose to participate, you can remain completely anonymous and not include your name on the survey submitted. However, only participants that provide their names will be eligible to enter into the prize drawing for an Amazon gift card. Research records will be kept confidential, consistent with federal and state regulations. No one other than my research advisor, Dr. Hively and myself will have access to the submitted data. The research raw data will be transferred into a password protected file within a flash drive, which will be kept inside a locked file cabinet of the researcher’s office. When the study is complete, the survey information will be erased permanently from the password protected flash drive.
