Short-Term Let Licensing Renewals, Planning Control Areas and Non-Domestic Rates (NDR) Survey

1.October 2026

As many operators have now been through, or are currently going through, the process of renewing their short-term let licence, we are keen to build a clear picture of how renewals are working in practice across Scotland.

We would really value hearing about your experience – what you have been asked to provide, how straightforward the process has been, what it has cost, and whether anything has changed since your original licence application.

Your responses will help us understand how renewal processes are being applied across different local authorities and identify areas of concern, inconsistency or good practice.

We have also included a small number of questions on Non-Domestic Rates (NDR), Council Tax and Planning Control Areas. Your feedback on these will help us build a clearer picture of how these issues are affecting self-catering operators across Scotland.

The evidence you share is incredibly valuable to the ASSC and will support our ongoing work to represent the sector and make the case for regulation that is fair, proportionate and workable in practice.

This survey will close on Sunday 8th November 2026 at midnight.
