Sustainable Shift: Climate-Ready Anesthesia in a Warming World

June 6, 2026, 12:45 pm - 2:15 pm
-----------------------------------------
Learning Objectives:
  1. Integrate sustainability into patient safety and quality improvement in anesthesiology Participants will understand how environmental metrics and the triple bottom line can be incorporated into QI frameworks to align ecological responsibility with patient safety.
  2. Critically evaluate anesthesia practices and infrastructure that contribute to environmental impact Participants will identify high impact drivers of perioperative carbon emissions, including nitrous oxide, volatile anesthetics, waste streams, and equipment choices, and assess strategies for mitigation.
  3. Apply climate resilient and low carbon strategies to clinical practice and leadership Participants will be able to implement evidence based interventions such as low carbon anesthetic selection, waste reduction, supply chain optimization, and institutional preparedness for climate related disruptions, positioning anesthesiology as a leader in sustainable healthcare.
