Hello and welcome to the Boilerhouse Community Consultation Survey

The University of New England (UNE) and the UNE Discovery team are in the planning stages to transform the old disused Boilerhouse building located in the northern area of UNE’s Armidale campus into a Discovery Space for the community. If you are unfamiliar with what a Discovery Space is, have a look at Australia's only other dedicated children's discovery space in Wollongong - http://earlystartdiscoveryspace.edu.au/

In America there are hundreds of these spaces that call themselves Children's Museums. Google them to check out how amazing they are!

Our mission is to redevelop the building and surrounds into an innovative children’s Discovery Space, with the main focus on play-based learning.  We will combine original, historically significant features with a new design and new materials to be a structure of international architectural merit.  Inside the Boilerhouse, we want carers and children to learn together and find experiences designed to stimulate their senses using touch, taste, hearing, smelling and seeing. We want them to have fun and experience movement of their bodies including springing, landing, rotating, swinging as well as balancing.  Children will learn, through play, about collaborating, thinking, sharing and problem solving.

In addition, we envision a separate community space for exhibitions and performance as well as a café for some quiet time or catching up with friends.  We want this building to be inviting, interesting, interactive and open to people of all ages.

Purpose
The purpose of this survey is to gauge community interest in the redevelopment of the Boilerhouse and help contribute to its design. We are passionate about this project being driven by community, for community, and sustained by our regional people. You can help us to establish priorities and determine the look, feel and content of a unique and iconic regional destination.

How long will it take?  The survey has 24 questions and will take approximately 10 minutes.

Confidentiality
You have the option to provide your name and contact details, and a tick-box to advise whether you would be happy to be contacted in the future.  We will use the survey answers for analysis and will remove personal details from any data used for analytics.
