"Adolescent-Parent Relationships: Cultural Variations and     Developmental Significance"

Although adolescence is often depicted as a difficult time for adolescents and their parents, current research shows that most teens and their parents maintain positive relationships throughout this period, although conflicts and disagreements, as well as teens’ nondisclosure and concealment about their activities does increase during adolescence. This talk will discuss normative developmental trends in adolescent-parent relationships and their developmental significance. The universality of these processes and cultural and ethnic/racial variations also will be considered
