This study is designed to investigate the relationship between religion and memory. Specifically, this study has observed several key behavioral changes within the research literature which are believed to effect memory within religious individuals. We hope to examine key behavioral changes within religious individuals and how they effect short term memory. This study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Towson University (13-A062), (410) 704-2236). Please note that you must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this study. Also, you must identify with a particular religion (Christianity, Judaism, or Islam). If you are under the age of 18 or do not identify with a religion, please exit the study at this time.
Participation in this study will require you to complete a series of surveys and memory tasks. These surveys will take you approximately 25 to 30 minutes to complete, though participants have been known to complete the survey in less time. All of the information you provide in this study will be completely confidential. All questions are voluntary. If you do not wish to answer a specific question, you will not be penalized in any way. You may elect to withdraw from this study at any time. All records will be kept in the faculty advisor's office under lock and key for a period of three years following the completion of this study. After that period of three years, all records will be destroyed. Following completion of this study, you will receive further instructions on how you can be entered into a drawing for one of four $25.00 gift cards to Amazon.com.
There are minimal risks associated with participation in this study. You may feel uncomfortable being asked certain questions about your religion. We would like to remind you that you may withdraw from this study at any time. If you feel any distress from answering any questions, you may contact 1-800-THERAPIST (1-800-843-7274) for assistant in locating a professional counselor near you.
As a reminder, all information collected in these surveys will be both confidential and anonymous. Your name will not be attached to any information that you provide in the following surveys. For the purposes of this study, you will be identified through a ten-digit alpha-numberic identification number (example XXXXX-00000). This identification number cannot be traced back to you. No publications or reports from the following project will include any information linking you or any other participant to participation in this study.
