Thank you for your interest in volunteering with NAGARA!

NAGARA's mission is to support and champion the government archives and records administration profession. We are dedicated to improving government archives, records, and information management programs, and the professional development of government records administrators and archivists.

To achieve this mission, NAGARA has established four Standing Committees (listed in alphabetical order below). These committees possess advisory powers only. Each committee continuously reviews the needs for policy changes in those matters assigned to it and makes such recommendations to the Board of Directors as may appear necessary and appropriate.

The work carried out by these committees aligns with and advances the association's five strategic objectives.

Career Support Programs

NAGARA’s Career Support Programs Committee fosters the development and advancement of the membership at all stages of their careers. The committee will offer mentorship and internship opportunities to encourage career development. They will support equitable access to NAGARA resources through travel assistance for first time NAGARA conference attendees and by facilitating career growth for the membership.

Issues and Awareness

The role of the Issues and Awareness committee is to define and act on current events facing records and information professionals. The committee will advocate for, among other issues, sustainability, accessibility, and equity in both archival and non-permanent public records programs. They will track current events, research, and develop position statements on behalf of the organization, and actively and partner with sister organizations to enhance NAGARA’s advocacy efforts.

Member Engagement

The role of the Member Engagement Committee is to encourage the participation of both members and non-members in NAGARA programs and services. They work to identify prospective members who can mutually benefit from membership in the organization and solicit the stated needs of current and future members. They recommend the development of programs/services to meet the membership’s needs, including the integration of resources and tools to support diversity, equity and inclusion. The committee cultivates future members to help increase diversity and inclusion amongst NAGARA and the Board of Directors.

Professional Development

The role of the Professional Development Committee is to promote best practices and principles for archives, records, and information management within the membership. The committee cultivates professional development opportunities through the recruitment and evaluation of educational resources including webinars, forums, conference sessions, and white papers. Professional development supports equity and promotes diversity of thought within the membership. They collaborate with sister organizations to attain prior approval of NAGARA professional development offerings on behalf of the membership.
