Project Introduction

In partnership, the City of North Adams and Northern Berkshire Community Coalition are working to develop a Downtown Circulation Plan. At its core, the Downtown Circulation Plan builds on past planning studies, projects and public input conducted by the City and primarily seeks to address impediments to economic growth within the City’s borders. With such a diverse array of cultural institutions, businesses and scenic vistas, North Adams is home to numerous ‘islands of opportunity’ that are perceived as mostly disconnected from each other.

The Downtown Circulation Plan will provide a framework to support downtown businesses, visitors and residents in adjacent neighborhoods by enhancing the design the of City’s built environment. Design enhancements primarily seek to improve multi-modal connections (i.e. more walking and bicycling facilities) among neighborhoods, places of interest and, cultural attractions. The culmination of the Plan will provide a conceptual design informed by further community input that link these ‘islands’ to unlock the full potential of the downtown’s opportunities.

The Project Area encompasses River Street south to American Legion Drive - and from Mass MoCA east to Church Street. Please see Project Area Map below.

Your responses to this survey will help guide the design. The results of this survey will be shared at upcoming public meetings.
