The National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) Research Foundation and our technical assistance partners offer a variety of types of assistance on rural and Tribal transportation and mobility in communities under 50,000 population in the United States.
Our team may be able to provide research and planning assistance to support existing programs or planned projects, or we can develop informational workshops or technical training to build your organization's capacity. Although NADO does not have funding to grant directly to rural communities, we can share information about potential transportation funding opportunities that your community could apply for.
In the past, we have helped Tribes, regional development organizations, communities, and transit agencies with:
- conducting stakeholder outreach
- exploring new partnerships and identifying regional assets
- identifying noteworthy practices related to mobility, community/economic development, and rural wealth creation
- developing strategies for addressing transportation and economic development challenges
- estimating transportation demand, mobility service options, or costs
- writing RFP templates
- analyzing data (such as public transit route analysis, walkshed/bikeshed, community activity density, safety challenges affecting regional connectivity, rural bicycle level of traffic stress)
- conducting walk audits
- connecting with peer communities that are addressing similar mobility challenges
- training for agency staff, board members, or stakeholders
- other mobility and economic development issues
Most of our assistance is supported through federal funding that NADO applies for annually, including USDA Rural Development. Availability is subject to our team's capacity and the community or Tribe's eligibility for funding sources that support NADO's work. USDA RD, NADO, and our partners are equal opportunity providers.
If we cannot assist you, we may refer you to other organizations providing transportation assistance or follow up with you about seeking funding to support your assistance request.
