Hamilton Our Town is the organisation that currently works with businesses in the central town centre area of Hamilton. The area is called a Business Improvement District.

We are the only organisation dedicated to positively and exclusively promoting the town centre of Hamilton.

We are the only organisation hosting ongoing community events in support of footfall, placemaking and economic impact.

We are on the ground on location each week in support of businesses, providing a voice for the area.

Our current 5 year term ends in October 2027 and, as part a review of future opportunities for the area , we are speaking to existing businesses and additional businesses and organisations across a wider area of the town centre.

At this stage, we are fact-finding and listening. We want to hear your views on the challenges facing the town centre, what could be improved, and any ideas or suggestions you may have for the future.

We are also interested in whether businesses in a wider area could benefit from being included in any future Hamilton Our Town proposal.

The ideas discussed through this survey are for consultation purposes only and do not represent any commitment to specific projects, services or changes. Your feedback will instead help us understand what businesses want and will be used to shape possible ideas and proposals for the next stage of consultation.

Hamilton Our Town provides the business community with a collective voice, supporting positive change, championing local businesses and working to make Hamilton town centre a better place to visit, work and do business.

Recent initiatives:

Enabling the reopening of Quarry Street to vehicles with free 30 min parking in 2024, which was followed by a significant increase in visits to the area. (2025 Quarry Street +226k visits yoy / area +48k estimated). Free bays in Cadzow & Townhead Street also introduced.

Providing businesses with access to our popular social media platforms and free professional photography service.

Delivering popular free to attend town-centre events and activities including Gala Days, Hamilton Market, Summerfest and the Christmas Light Switch on.

The only organisation promoting Hamilton town centre and its businesses throughout the year using social media, national radio campaigns, local press.

Focus on fly tipping reduction, reporting of issues impacting the area

Communication support and collective voice regarding the town centre masterplan

The organisation is primarily funded via a levy paid by businesses and collected by the local authority and by grants and commercial funds. We operate with a volunteer board. The organisation is not part of the local authority.

No decision has been made, and any detailed proposals would be developed with businesses.

If businesses support being part of this collective approach, an annual BID levy would apply following further consultation, agreement on the final proposal and a formal ballot.
