MT21005 Strategic Agrichemical Review Process (SARP) - Updates

Service Provider: AGK Services

A Strategic Agrichemical Review Process (SARP) involves a desktop audit and industry liaison component to assess the importance of plant pests affecting a horticultural industry.

The SARP Survey objective is to identify diseases, insect pests and weeds of major concern to the industry. Against these threats, available registered or permitted pesticides are evaluated against regulatory threats, overall suitability in terms of Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM) resistance, efficacy, trade and human safety.

The results of this process will provide the horticulture industries with a clear indication of where the horticultural industry should pursue additional pest control options to address priority pest issues in each crop type, either through new registrations in conjunction with registrants or by obtaining minor use permits via the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). The SARP reports will also be used to inform priorities to be pursued via the AgVet Grants program based on high priority needs and gaps for each industry.

Note: Exotic plant pests, not present in Australia, are not addressed in this survey as they are covered in biosecurity plans.

The purpose of the 2021 SARP survey is to identify the Mushroom Industry's priorities and provide comment on priority pests (diseases, insects & weeds).

Prioritisation of the major pests into high, moderate and low categories will identify the Mushroom Industry's priorities and help determine the highest priority gaps in the mushroom pest control strategy.

The Industry Regulatory Risk Assessment is available at https://www.horticulture.com.au/growers/help-your-business-grow/research-reports-publications-fact-sheets-and-more/mt20007/ for review of current control options and at-risk chemistry.

This multi-industry project (MT21005) has been funded by Hort Innovation, using the mango, cherry, mushroom, table grape, citrus, turf, apple & pear, chestnut, sweet potato, custard apple and persimmon research and development levies and contributions from the Australian Government. Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australian horticulture.
