In January of 2014 Greenville Chamber launched a bold new small business accelerator program, which focused on the development and acceleration of smaller diverse suppliers throughout the Upstate of South Carolina. The overarching intent of this initiative is to help build capacity and visibility among those high potential and emerging businesses participating in the program. Ultimately, the goal is for these firms to become more competitive and prepared to do business with major customers throughout the region. This outcome is expected to stimulate the economy through the creation of a more diverse and viable supplier base, as well as retain existing and establish new livable wage jobs throughout the Upstate region. MBEs (Minority Business Enterprise) in the program are assigned to a leadership coach. These relationships will ensure that those MBEs are better connected, prepared, and positioned for growth opportunities. The role of the Leadership Coach is to, a) assist the MBE in the navigation and implementation of their strategic plans and, b) serve as a source of, general guidance / encouragement / motivation.
