Join the Special Libraries Association Michigan Chapter on May 2 to learn about globalEDGE, a free international business website that offers a wealth of information, insights, and resources on global business activities.

globalEDGE has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and cited as a “Best of the Best Business Website” for International Business research by the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the ALA. globalEDGE features include a Resource Desk with links to thousands of high-quality international business websites, a vast IB glossary, Export Tutorials FAQ, and sections on trade blocs, countries, states, and industries featuring insights on doing business in the world’s markets and industries. Additionally, globalEDGE hosts an international business blog, the Market Potential Index for Emerging Markets, a Database of International Business Statistics (DIBS), and numerous other tools and resources for the international business practitioner, researcher, or educator.

Sarah Singer, Assistant Director of MSU’s International Business Center, will show us why globalEDGE is widely used by faculty, students, librarians, and business people around the world and how you can incorporate it into your research repertoire.

Please note our no-show and no cash policies:

No-Show Policy In December 2007, the SLA Michigan Chapter Board instituted a no-show policy. If an attendee RSVPs and indicates they will pay at the door, and then does not attend the meeting, that attendee will be billed for and responsible for the cost. Attendees will have up to 72 hours (three days) prior to a meeting to cancel via phone, e-mail or in writing (unless otherwise noted). In the case of personal emergencies, requests for exceptions will be reviewed by the board.

No Cash Policy In December 2007, the SLA Michigan Chapter Board instituted a no cash policy. Attendees may pay via PayPal. When paying at the door, attendees are requested to use checks or money orders, but not cash. This change is to a) eliminate the need for those who check-in attendees at the meetings from having to make change, and b) avoid a program committee member carrying cash after a meeting.
