It breaks Derick’s heart that John’s mom is not able to provide those additional things to him. What should Derrick do? Buy John the sneakers because he has been such a great mentee Talk to John’s mom and convince her that she should make the sacrifice and buy John the sneakers Since Derrick is not a savior or Santa Claus he should explore with John what he's feeling and why he really want the sneakers. Promise Susan that she will not tell anyone and try to keep in closer touch with her in the next few weeks in the hopes she does not harm herself. Acknowledge Susan’s courage to share something so personal with her. Remind Susan that her role is to help her and keep her safe and she will do everything to help her but she needs to share it with someone that can help them both with what she has shared. Then report it to the program coordinator to ensure that Susan gets the help she needs. Tell Susan she will not tell anyone and go to the program coordinator and report it anyway.
