McAllen is in the process of implementing a bike share program that will enhance mobility by connecting bike sharing to public transportation, major points of origin and destination, as well as leisure locations such as parks and trails. The program can have many beneficial effects such as reducing traffic congestion as well as our carbon footprint, promoting healthy living, attracting tourists, and improving the overall quality of life of McAllen’s citizens.
The way the program works is that bikes can be rented through the purchase of a membership. Memberships are for 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or one can purchase an annual membership. Your membership gets you the first hour of every ride you take free of charge. After the first hour, additional fees apply. Each time a bike is returned to any docking station, you can check out another and a new free 1-hour period will begin. The program is designed for short trips so that more bikes are available for all to use.
