Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the future of Maryland Avenue.

The City of Saint Paul and Ramsey County will be improving Maryland Avenue between East Como Boulevard and Rice Street for all users. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028. Your comments will help guide priorities for the road design.

What we've heard so far
In the first phase of engagement for this project, we heard that the community desires safer travel for all modes (pedestrians, bicyclists, cars, trucks and buses), slower speeds, and updated infrastructure (things like repaving sidewalks and removing potholes).

Goals of this survey
Based on community input and technical analysis, we have drafted two potential alternatives for Maryland Avenue. Both options include space for bicycling. Saint Paul’s Bicycle Plan (adopted in 2024) identifies this stretch of Maryland for implementation of a separated bikeway. This survey will help us understand what trade-offs should be prioritized and gather feedback on the draft designs.

*1.Maryland Avenue is a relatively narrow corridor. There isn't enough space to include every improvement community members have requested while also preserving mature trees, street parking, and maintaining access for everyone who uses the corridor. As the project team develops alternatives, some trade-offs will be necessary.
