Introduction

Working with the marketplace has shown that when we support providers well, we can both increase the engagement with procurement from local, smaller (MSME) and voluntary sector (VCSFE) providers, and they can secure more contracts in the public sector too. When local economies grow, communities can thrive. Jobs are created and sustained, and we can make a real difference to people lives, wellbeing and community wealth building.

Supporting MSME and VCSE organisations starts long before the procurement is advertised and contracts are awarded. Preparing the marketplace to be able to take part in your procurement opportunities is crucial to our economic, social and environmental success and procurement plays a pivotal role.

This assessment is designed to help you understand how accessible your organisation’s procurement activity is to the marketplace.

It focuses on the practical conditions that shape whether suppliers can:
  • find opportunities
  • understand what is required
  • engage with your organisation
  • compete effectively
The Index measures six key dimensions of supplier accessibility, including visibility of opportunities, procurement design, supplier engagement and participation outcomes.

This is not a compliance exercise. Instead, it is designed to provide an honest reflection of current practice and highlight opportunities to strengthen your supplier marketplace.

The assessment will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

You will be asked a series of questions about your organisation’s procurement practices, using a simple 1–5 maturity scale. There are no right or wrong answers — the value of the assessment comes from answering as accurately as possible based on current practice.

At the end of the assessment, you will receive:
  • an overall Marketplace Accessibility score
  • a classification of your marketplace (from Closed to Leading)
  • insight into typical characteristics at your level
  • practical actions to improve accessibility
  • suggested resources to support development
Please answer based on current practice, not intended improvements. If you would like to hear from providers about their experiences or public sector organisations view on supporting the marketplace, please feel free to head to www.go4growth.co.uk/case-studies.

Thank you for taking part.
