2020 Strategic Plan Public Survey Introduction

Hello Manistee County Residents and Manistee Conservation District Supporters,

It is time for the Manistee Conservation District (MCD) to evaluate the success of the District since 2014. We would like to gather input from the Manistee residents and other landowners by issuing the following survey. The Manistee Conservation District strives to be a valuable organization that provides free or low-cost public resources to fulfill our mission of promoting stewardship of the land, water and soil of Western Michigan. While we are similar to a lot of our partners, we are a separate organization classified as a local unit of government. Some organizations that may be similar to us, but are separate organizations include: Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes & Energy(formerly DEQ), Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, US Forest Service, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), National Park Service, Manistee County Government and many others. We are ever grateful to partner with organizations like these working to fulfill similar goals.

The Manistee Conservation District currently has staff managing grant programs focused on landowner assistance including Produce Safety, Forestry, Agriculture, Invasive Species and NRCS Planning and Financial Assistance Programs. In addition, the District facilitates annual events like our annual meeting, tree sale, native plant sale, and household hazardous waste collection. We also in a more limited capacity work to continue stream monitoring, education and outreach services, and watershed partnership coordination, among other things! We are dedicated to sharing and supporting successful conservation practices with residents of the communities we serve.

We greatly appreciate your participation in this survey. The feedback you provide us will help inform the development of our Strategic Plan for the next 5 years, so that we may effectively fulfill the mission of the Manistee Conservation District and the Michigan Association of Conservation Districts. It is our number one priority to serve you, the residents of Manistee County and other community members, in ensuring that we provide the right tools, assistance and resources to implement conservation practices in our local service area and to promote the protection of these resources for years to come. Please consider completing this survey! Your input is valuable!

Please submit the survey before April 10, 2020.

THANK YOU,

Manistee Conservation District Staff and Board of Directors
